Government committed to EU integration, Mucunski tells Koopman

Skopje, 25 August 2025 (MIA) — The government has shown its serious commitment to the reform agenda over the past year, achieving progress in digitization, the rule of law and the fight against corruption, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski at Monday's meeting in Brussels with the European Commission's Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations Directorate Director-General Gert Jan Koopman.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade in a press release, meeting participants discussed the implementation of the reform agenda as well as the EC's Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
Mucunski and Koopman talked about current geopolitical and security challenges in Europe, including the importance of continuing support for Ukraine.
They talked about regional cooperation, as well, stressing the active contribution of the Republic of North Macedonia to regional initiatives and to the stability and security of the entire region.

Meeting participants also talked about an initiative for gradually eliminating roaming costs between the Western Balkan countries and the European Union. The decision regarding the initiative is expected to be made early next year, the release said.
Mucunski confirmed the Republic of North Macedonia's firm committment to the European integration process as one of its strategic foreign policy priorities.
He also highlighted the country's full compliance with the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy as well as the importance of the strategic partnership with the EU in security and defense, the release said. mr/
