Gashi – Rousopoulos: Parliamentary cooperation important for greater regional visibility of CoE

Skopje, 3 November 2025 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi met Monday with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Theodoros Rousopoulos, who is on official visit to North Macedonia on occasion of the 30th anniversary of the country’s membership in the Council of Europe.

“Speaker Gashi voiced gratitude over the continued support provided by the Council of Europe to North Macedonia since 1995, stressing that the country’s three decades of membership stand as a confirmation of the permanent commitment to human rights, democracy, and the rule of law,” Parliament said in a press release. 

According to Parliament, at the meeting Gashi and Rousopoulos highlighted the importance of parliamentary cooperation and joint initiatives that contribute to greater visibility of the Council of Europe in the region.

“Speaker Gashi underscored that the experience gained through the Council of Europe is of special importance for the accession process to the European Union, and that Parliament will continue to serve as an example of transparency, dialogue, and commitment to the European standards. The meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere, with mutual agreement to deepen cooperation in the spirit of shared European values,” the press release said.
