Washington, 19 May 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Former US president Joe Biden, 82, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer on Friday, a statement from his office on Sunday said.
The cancer is characterized by a Gleason score of 9, meaning it had metastasized to the bone, the statement said.
Although it was described as "a more aggressive form of the disease," his office said the cancer seems to be "hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management."
US President Donald Trump responded to the news on his Truth Social account, writing:
"Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden's recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery."
Biden and his family are currently reviewing treatment options.
