FM Mucunski in phone call with Bulgarian counterpart Georgiev

Skopje, 11 June 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski held a phone call with Bulgarian counterpart Georg Georgiev on Wednesday.

Georgiev briefed Mucunski over the Bulgarian National Assembly's decision related to North Macedonia's progress in the European Union accession process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said in a press release.

Minister Mucunski reiterated the country's principled positions in the EU accession process and its readiness for further enhancement of cooperation with Bulgaria towards building mutual trust, in the citizens' interest.

"For this purpose, we are ready to resume with our active contribution in building trust based on principles and mutual respect. As neighbors and NATO allies, both countries have a common task to continue to develop ties based on European principles, while focusing on the future," said Mucunski.

In this regard, the FM reaffirmed North Macedonia's commitment to the European path that "should not be burdened by bilateral issues."

"The Government is committed to the reform agenda and meeting the Copenhagen criteria, which should be the only requirement for the country's EU membership," added Mucunski.
