Finance minister: Fuel tax cuts extended through June 1

Skopje, 16 May 2026 (MIA) — The government has extended fuel tax cuts through June 1 to help ease inflation and protect living standards, Minister of Finance Gordana Dimitrieska Kochoska announced Saturday.

In a Facebook post, the finance minister said the decision was made during an emergency session held earlier Saturday to extend the measures that were set to expire Monday.

The measures include reducing the fuel excise tax and VAT from 18% to 10%. The extension is a response to global energy market uncertainties, she wrote.

"As the government and the Ministry of Finance, we ensure stability and predictability, reduce inflationary pressures, support the economy and preserve the standard of living of citizens," Dimitrieska Kochoska wrote.

A separate fuel discount from OKTA, the country’s largest oil importer, expires Monday. OKTA has been offering most local gas stations a discount of three denars per liter for diesel and two denars per liter for gasoline. mr/
