Filipche: Prosecutor’s Office to investigate NSA claims and clear up case as soon as possible

Skopje, 2 September 2025 (MIA) - SDSM leader Venko Filipche called on the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate allegations made by the National Security Agency (NSA) and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski claiming that Mickoski was wiretapped while he was leader of the opposition, in addition to journalists, businessmen and other people. Filipche said at a press conference Tuesday he expects to see an objective reporting of the facts, noting that the documents should be declassified so the truth can be seen.

“The Prosecutor’s Office should clear up this matter as soon as possible. The former director [of the NSA], Dimovski, also called for it to be cleared up. Let’s declassify the information, so that we can know what exactly happened before we can judge whether there were reforms or not,” Filipche said at the press conference.

The SDSM leader said he expects to see an objective reporting of the facts, an investigation and justice.

“Over the past period, we have seen many bombastically announced scandals from certain news websites and from VMRO-DPMNE's spokespeople that had no resolution. Let me remind you, there was talk of attempted bribery of the Prime Minister, claims he was followed by a drone, predictions of destabilization, and now this alleged surveillance. Today there was also a statement from the former Director of the National Security Agency, and he himself is calling for the declassification of information so we can see what the truth is, so that there isn’t a witch hunt. I believe the citizens and the public deserve that,” Filipche added.

The leader of the opposition said during SDSM’s rule serious reforms were implemented at the NSA and within the security apparatus as a whole. “We reacted strongly to the Prime Minister’s statements that the agencies should merge,” Filipche said, adding that part of the reason for this are past experiences with VMRO-DPMNE's rule in relation to this issue.

Filipche stressed everything should be done in order to uncover the truth about the issue.
