Efforts made to open 40-km highway section by July 10, says Mickoski

Skopje, 17 June 2025 (MIA) – Efforts are being made allowing the first 40-kilometer section of the Kichevo-Ohrid highway to be put in operation by July 10 as well as the Drenovo-Farish expressway section until the end of this month, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Tuesday.

Construction works on four highways, including Kichevo-Ohrid, Gostivar-Bukojchani, Gostivar-Tetovo and Prile-Bitola – some 150 kilometres long – intensified fourfold in the first four months of this year compared to last year, PM Mickoski told reporters in Bitola noting he expects it to increase eightfold in the second and third quarter.

He said the Kichevo-Ohrid highway section will be opened in early July. “We’ll be late by two weeks compared to what we had announced a year ago,” Mickoski said noting that the director of the State Roads public enterprise and the transport minister have been on the ground almost every day to make sure the section is inaugurated by July 10.

“Also, landslide projects have been late, but I believe we have motivated companies to observe the deadline in order to inaugurate the whole road by late 2026 or early 2027,” he said.

The prime minister also announced that new 1,200 construction sites will be opened in the municipalities as part of infrastructural projects from the two government’s call.
