Education ministry, Public Revenue Office to launch 'Fiscal Education' project in schools nationwide

Skopje, 17 October 2025 (MIA) -- The Ministry of Education and Science and the Public Revenue Office signed Friday a memorandum of cooperation on a project titled "Fiscal Education," consisting of lectures and workshops on the national tax system in elementary and high schools nationwide.

According to the Public Revenue Office in a press release, the memorandum was signed by Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska and Public Revenue Office director Elena Petrova.

"The focus of the project is for young generations to learn what taxes are and why they are important, how the Public Revenue Office works, how taxes are calculated, reported and paid, what obligations and rights related to public revenues citizens have and what the benefits are of responsible and timely fulfillment of tax obligations," the release said.

The project will include competitions and organized visits to the Public Revenue Office, as well.

At the signing, Petrova said fiscal education was a strategic investment in the future through building a fiscally literate and responsible generation of citizens. Minister Janevska said the project would prepare students to be active and informed participants in society.

"The goal of the project is to encourage the development of a tax culture based on knowledge, awareness, personal responsibility and understanding, rather than fear or coercion," the release said.

"Through 'Fiscal Education,' the Public Revenue Office aims to create future citizens who understand how the state works and who actively contribute to its stability, fairness and development," it said, pointing out that "institutions not only build knowledge, but also shape values."

According to the release, the project would encourage young people to think critically, act responsibly and recognize their role in building a functional and fair society.

"The project is a long-term investment in creating a society with greater trust in institutions and greater willingness to participate in public life," the Public Revenue Office said. mr/
