Durmishi: No need to intervene on food prices for now

Skopje, 14 January 2026 (MIA) - The Ministry of Economy and Labor sees no reason to intervene regarding foor prices for the time being, considering the 0.4-percent drop in December.

Minister of Economy and Labor Besar Durmishi said Wednesday there is no reason to restrict the profit margins or cap prices at this time.

"We are monitoring the situation on a daily basis and are in communication with representatives of the State Market Inspectorate. We will act if needed, but food and beverage prices in December dropped by 0.4 percent. I am certain the trend will continue this year as well," said Minister Durmishi.

According to him, more than 20,000 inspections were conducted over the course of 2025, with EUR 2.5 million issued in fines for those traders that increased prices without any economic justification.
