Durmishi: No drastic increase in prices of basic food products

Tetovo, 14 June 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Economy and Labor Besar Durmishi told journalists Saturday he believes there are no drastic increases in the prices of basic food products in the country. He said market inspectorates are monitoring the situation on the ground.

According to Durmishi, throughout May, the State Market Inspectorate monitored prices in supermarkets, distributors, and producers to determine if there were any price hikes, especially of basic food products, after the end of government price measures on April 30.

“There is no drastic increase in the prices in the sector where we have jurisdiction, specifically in basic food products. Every month, the State Market Inspectorate will be on the ground monitoring the situation. If there happens to be an excessive increase by traders without economic justification, we will, of course, adopt new decisions. I have stated this previously, if this is the case we will introduce stricter measures than those implemented so far,” Durmishi said.

On February 20, the Government introduced a measure limiting margins for 100 groups of products and capping the prices of eight products which remained in place until April 30.
