Drone sighting halts air traffic at Brussels Airport for second time

Brussels, 5 November 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Air traffic at Brussels Airport was halted for a second time on Tuesday night after a drone sighting, the Belga news agency reported.

Shortly before 10 pm (2100 GMT), all take-offs and landings were suspended for safety reasons, the agency reported, citing Belgian air traffic control and traffic service provider Skeyes.

Just two hours earlier, a drone sighting had already brought traffic at the Belgian capital's airport to a standstill for about an hour.

Belga also reported that air traffic at Liège Airport was temporarily stopped after a drone sighting.

Some flights were diverted to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport and to Maastricht Aachen Airport, Belga reported, citing the Dutch news agency ANP.

Drones again sighted at military installation

Meanwhile, drones were again sighted over Belgium's Kleine-Brogel military airbase, which is used by NATO forces, in the latest of several recent incidents.

Local people reported six drones near the airfield on Tuesday evening, Belga reported, citing the local mayor, Steven Matheï.

According to unconfirmed reports, the airbase is one of the locations in Europe where US nuclear weapons are stored.

Belgian Defence Minister Theo Francken was appearing on a television programme at the time of the sightings but left the studio due to the incidents, Belga said. The minister confirmed that drone sightings had been reported both at Kleine-Brogel in the region of Flanders and at another military base in Wallonia.

Drones had already been spotted several times over Kleine-Brogel last weekend.
