Deputy FM: North Macedonia, Western Balkans joining EU strongest guarantee of European security

Skopje, 16 September 2025 (MIA) -- At the invitation of Albania's Cooperation and Development Institute think tank, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Zoran Dimitrovski is taking part in the 11th Tirana Connectivity Forum being held Tuesday and Wednesday in Tirana, Albania.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dimitrovski spoke at a panel titled "South East Europe 6 as a Security Provider."

In his remarks, the deputy foreign minister said that North Macedonia and the other countries in the region were active and responsible partners who contributed to shaping the future of Europe's security.

"The current security and geopolitical situation needs to build new, dynamic momentum for the European integration process of all Western Balkan countries, urgently and without delay," Dimitrovski said.

"It is important to highlight that EU's enlargement is the strongest guarantee of European security," he added.

He also welcomed the EU's initiatives like its White Paper for European Defense: Readiness 2030 and its SAFE instrument.

In this context, he said including candidate countries in the EU's shared defense and security capacity building efforts would not only strengthen the nation's resilience but also secure the European defense configuration. mr/
