Culture Minister promotes postage stamp marking 80th anniversary since codification of Macedonian language

Skopje, 4 June 2025 (MIA) - When we look after our language we also look after ourselves, after our children, after the memory of our ancestors, Culture Minister Zoran Ljutkov said at a promotion Wednesday of a postage mark created in honor of the 80th anniversary since the codification of the Macedonian language.

“Over the years, our language has built bridges – from rural schools to major universities, from folk songs to contemporary literature. It is spoken by the old and the young, at home and in the diaspora, on the streets and on the stage. That is why we must look after our language, because when we look after it, we also look after ourselves, after our children, after the memory of our ancestors. I am especially pleased that in the year we mark 80 years since its codification, we are promoting a special postage stamp as a tribute to our language,” Ljutkov said.

The Minister said the postage stamp is of immense importance.

“By issuing this stamp we are also sending a message that we respect the past, we celebrate the language that connects us and that we are committed to preserving it for future generations. It will travel throughout the world and tell the tale of the eight decades of linguistic maturity, of the generations of writers, poets, researchers that built up the Macedonian language, Ljutkov said.”

The stamp was designed by Larisa Donev, it will be priced at Mden 36, and 6.000 stamps will be issued.
