Country sees hottest July day on record as Gazi Baba hits 43.7 C

Skopje, 1 August 2025 (MIA) — The country experienced its hottest July day on record as the temperature hit 43.7 degrees Celsius in Skopje's Gazi Baba on July 26, breaking Skopje's previous record of 43.4 degrees Celsius, the national weather service said Friday.
Ohrid and Mavrovo, too, broke July average surface air temperature records. Ohrid saw a rise from 37.5 degrees Celsius to 38.1 degrees Celsius, and Mavrovo from 34.2 degrees Celsius to 34.3 degrees Celsius.
Two strong heatwaves swept across the country this July: between July 1 and 8, and between July 20 and 27, making this July "extremely hot and dry," according to the Hydrometeorological Service in its press release.
The average temperature across the country this July ranged between 18.5 degrees Сelsius in Lazaropole and 28.5 degrees Celsius in Gevgelija. Compared to average July temperatures recorded between 1991 and 2020, meteorologists saw a rise of 2.3 degrees Celsius at the national level this year.
The lowest temperature during the month was recorded in Lazaropole on July 10. It was 4.4 degrees Celsius.
Bitola saw the least rain this July — zero millimeters — and Berovo saw the most, with a total rainfall of 10.7 millimeters.
Berovo also saw the most rain in a single day this July. It had 8.7 millimeters of rain on July 18. mr/
