Consumer prices increase by 5.7 percent, retail prices up 5 percent: statistics

Skopje, 7 May 2026 (MIA) - Consumer prices in April, compared to the same month in 2025, increased by 5.7 percent, while retail prices rose by 5 percent, said the State Statistical Office on Thursday.

Inflation measured through the Consumer Price Index in April, compared to the previous month, was 1.3 percent. 

An increase in the Consumer Price Index was registered in the following groups: Transport by 10.1%, Recreation, sport and culture by 1.4%, Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics by 1.2%, Food and non-alcoholic beverages by 0.7%, Clothing and footwear, Personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services and Information and Communication by 0.6%, Restaurants and accommodation services by 0.4%, Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, Health and Education services by 0.3%.

A decrease in inflation is the result of the decrease in the Consumer Price Index in the group Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 0.2%.

The Consumer Price Index in the group Insurance and financial services remained at the same level as in the previous month. 

Retail prices in April compared to the previous month increased by 3.2 percent.
