Commission on Election and Appointment Issues to review list of candidates for anticorruption commission head

Commission on Election and Appointment Issues to review list of candidates for anticorruption commission head

Skopje, 21 November 2025 (MIA) – Parliament’s Commission on Election and Appointment Issues will hold a session Friday to verify a proposed list for the election of a president of the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (SCPC).

The anticorruption commission will get a new head, who will replace Tatjana Dimitrovska after resigning because she is a defendant in the so-called Additive case for leaking a state secret and committing computer forgery. According to the indictment, she leaked information to a person indicted in the Additive case involving a case opened by the anticorruption commission against him. She also is charged with falsifying a security clearance certificate because someone else passed the electronic test in her stead.

The committee tasked with selecting candidates for SCPC president, formed by the Parliament’s Commission on Election and Appointment Issues, said yesterday that the candidate Adem Chuchulj, a lawyer from Skopje and the incumbent secretary general of the anticorruption commission, has been considered as being the most successful in the selection process.

According to the committee, Chuchulj demonstrated a notable experience in preventing corruption and conflict of interests as well as a clear vision and a concrete plan for the work and development of the SCPC.

The answers he gave were considered excellent to all general and specific questions, earning a total of 96.50 points, ranking him highest among the candidates.

The second on the list, with 86.33 points, is Branko Smilevski, an economist from Skopje with a masters’ degree on the fight against corruption, who currently serves as an assistant to the Chief Auditor. He is followed by Kimo Chavdar, PhD, a lawyer from Skopje, who has earned 81.83 points.

The call for candidates vying for head of the anticorruption commission was issued this past summer. It was temporarily halted due to the local elections.

Out of 13 candidates who applied for the post, 10 were selected. Interviews with the candidates have been taking place since Tuesday.
