Skopje, 4 December 2025 (MIA) - The City of Skopje said Thursday that the Environmental Protection Sector has put forward several recommendations on improving the air quality ahead of winter.

"The Environmental Protection Sector, as the competent sector in terms of measures and activities to improve ambient air quality, in accordance with the action plans and ahead of the winter season and the expected episodes of increased air pollution, puts forward the following recommendations: routine chimney inspection and cleaning, as well as maintenance of heating appliances; avoid using waste materials, waste oil, varnished and painted wood waste, styrofoam, PET packaging, tires or any synthetic material when heating at home; use dry and clean wood for heating; use and maintain wood stoves according to the manufacturer's instructions; and regular servicing of boilers, stoves and air conditioners for efficient combustion and fewer emissions of harmful substances," the City of Skopje posted on Facebook.

The City of Skopje adds that inspections and controls will be stepped up in the coming period as regards environmental protection reports or B-integrated environmental permits, and special attention will be paid to detecting and preventing waste burning.
