London, 10 May 2026 (PA Media/dpa/MIA) - Jeremy Doku struck again as Manchester City kept their title hopes alive with a vital 3-0 win over Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.
The winger scored his fifth goal in six games before Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush wrapped up a victory at the Etihad Stadium that cut Arsenal’s advantage at the top to two points.
Both contenders now have three games to play, with Arsenal the next in action at relegation-threatened West Ham on Sunday.
After Monday’s frustrating draw at Everton, City needed to win to keep any pressure on the Gunners.
Liverpool still waiting for Champions League
Liverpool’s wait to secure Champions League football goes on while Chelsea avoided a club record-equalling seventh straight defeat in a 1-1 draw at Anfield.
The match encapsulated the hosts’ whole season in the first 45 minutes when they went ahead then retreated into their shell, allowing a team low on confidence and with a caretaker manager to grow into the game before equalising.
Ryan Gravenberch’s goal was only the fourth time Liverpool have scored in the opening 15 minutes of a league fixture this season but once Virgil van Dijk volleyed over from six yards things started to go backwards for Arne Slot’s side.
Enzo Fernandez’s low free-kick evaded everyone and crept inside the far post for the equalizer as Chelsea capitalized on the initiative they were handed by their passive opponents.
Both teams had second-half goals disallowed by VAR for offside and Dominik Szoboszlai and Van Dijk hit the frame of the goal as Liverpool finally woke from their slumber.
However, the draw still leaves them needing a win to guarantee a return to the Champions League, although superior goal difference means two points may be enough even if sixth-placed Bournemouth win all their remaining games.
The point also did nothing for Chelsea’s own European hopes.
Man United held to battling goalless draw at Sunderland
Manchester United and Sunderland shared the spoils in a goalless Premier League stalemate at the Stadium of Light.
The hosts enjoyed a bright first half with Chemsdine Talbi and Noah Sadiki having their best opportunities, while Joshua Zirkzee narrowly nodded over for United.
Sunderland continued to threaten in the second half as Senne Lammens made a solid save from Brian Brobbey before Lutsharel Geertruida hit the post and United went close at the death when Matheus Cunha’s strike was saved.
The game fizzled out into a draw and a point keeps the Old Trafford outfit unbeaten in their last four league outings, having already secured Champions League football for next season, while the Black Cats claimed back-to-back draws.
Elsewhere, Brighton put their European push back on track with a 3-0 win against relegated Wolves, while Bournemouth took a giant stride towards qualifying for Europe for the first time with a 1-0 win against Fulham.
