Chelsea to face Real Betis in Conference League final

Berlin, 9 May 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Top favourites Chelsea defeated Sweden's Djurgårdens IF 1-0 on Thursday to comfortably reach the Conference League final where they will face Spanish first-timers Real Betis.

The Blues had effectively settled the affair with their 4-1 win at the Stockholm club, and then also won at Stamford Bridge with several academy players in the line-up.

Tyrique George was denied by goalkeeper Jacob Rinne in the first half but the winner came in the 38th when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall ran past three defenders to convert in off the left post.

In the May 28 final in the Polish city of Wroclaw, Chelsea will now face Seville club Betis, who drew 2-2 at Fiorentina after extra time to deny the Italians a third straight appearance in the final, 4-3 on aggregate.

Chelsea happy

Chelsea can become the first club to win all three of Europe's current club competitions, having won the Champions League in 2012 and Europa League in 2013 and 2019.

"Amazing to be in the final. We set our sights at the start of the season to get as far as we can in this tournament and it has been a long couple of months but one more game to go and and hopefully we can lift that trophy," Dewsbury-Hall told TNT Sport.

"I know what football is like, it's not easy. If we do win it, which I hope we can, the players and staff deserve a lot of credit. We have had pressure from the first match day, we have been professional and dedicated and now we have one more game."

Fiorentina level tie

While there was no drama in London there was more action in Florence where the hosts aimed to reverse their 2-1 first-leg deficit.

Things looked bad for Fiorentina when Manchester United loanee Antony fired Betis ahead with a free-kick into the top left corner.

But Fiorentina hit right back and were level four minutes later from Robin Gosens' header off a corner kick, and the German did it again in the 42nd to lock the aggregate score at 3-3.

Betis get crucial second

Fiorentina goalkeeper David de Gea made huge late saves against Antony and Abdessamad Ezzalzouli to get them into extra time where however in the 97th Antony set up Ezzalzouli to score the 2-2 equalizer which saw Betis through.

It is the biggest European success for Betis who won a lone Spanish title 90 years ago and the Copa del Rey three times, the last in 2022.
