Stockholm, 14 November 2025 (dpa/MIA) — Several people were killed or injured in a bus accident Friday in central Stockholm, police confirmed in a statement, though exact details remain unclear.
Police in the Swedish capital said multiple people were struck by a bus on a busy road near a university in northern Stockholm.
Authorities confirmed there were both injuries and fatalities but did not immediately provide further details.
According to unconfirmed information from the newspaper Aftonbladet, three people are said to have died and several others were injured.
A double-decker bus crashed into a bus stop in the afternoon, multiple media outlets reported. The bus was not in service at the time, and no passengers were on board, they said.
Footage from broadcaster SVT showed numerous ambulances, fire engines and police vehicles at the scene.
The accident occurred near Tekniska Högskolan underground station, close to the Royal Institute of Technology.
The bus driver was reportedly detained, according to SVT and the newspaper Expressen.
Such action is not unusual in Sweden when the circumstances of an incident are initially unclear.
The accident happened around 3 pm (1400 GMT) in the central Östermalm district as many residents were starting their weekend.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson wrote on X: "We do not yet know the cause, but my thoughts are with those affected and their families at this time."
He added that the victims may have been people heading home to family, friends or a quiet evening.
