Skopje, 30 June 2026 (MIA) - The Ministry of Justice is implementing the largest reform cycle in recent years, including about 30 pieces of legislation and a number of activities within the rule of law field, Minister Igor Filkov told EU ambassadors in the Government on Tuesday.

"In less than two years, we drafted 30 laws, of which 13 are directly linked to the reform agenda. This legislative cycle is the largest reform process implemented by the Ministry of Justice in such a short timeframe, and a clear proof of the institutional capacity, responsibility and commitment to reforms, said Minister Filkov.

He added that reforms are implemented in close coordination with the Government, the European Commission, experts and international partners, with the only goal being to create a functional, efficient, European judicial system, the Ministry of Justice said in a press release.

Seventeen reform steps are included in the rule of law field, of which seven are linked to the adoption of 13 laws in the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice.

Filkov said all pieces of legislation were ready, the Parliament has already adopted four of them, with the remaining in various stages of adoption. According to the current pace, eight reform steps will be reported as implemented, with activities on securing broader political support continuing for two others - Law on the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Electoral Code.

"Reforms are an investment in the country's future. They lead to stronger institutions, a more efficient judiciary, higher trust among citizens, and faster European integration. Regarding the laws that require political consensus, I expect a responsible and statehood approach by all political stakeholders, because European reforms are an obligation to the country and future generations," said Minister Filkov.
