Another medical investigation to be launched into 3-year-old's death from unknown causes

Another medical investigation to be launched into 3-year-old's death from unknown causes

Kavadarci, 9 June 2025 (MIA) -- After the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate said Friday their investigation had found no medical errors in the treatment of the three-year-old boy from Kavadarci who died Tuesday of unknown causes in an ambulance on the way to Skopje, the Ministry of Health is launching its own investigation into the case.

According to Deputy Health Minister Jovica Andovski in a statement for MIA, "Doctors have been called to begin immediately."

The Kavadarci Hospital, as well, said three of its own doctors were preparing a report on the medical treatment of the child.

The State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate said their team could not find any irregularities during their three inspections performed Thursday. They interviewed the Kavadarci Hospital medical staff who had seen the child before sending him to Skopje; the general practitioner who had been the child's doctor; and doctors at the University Clinic for Pediatric Diseases in Skopje.

Previously, the child's parents had requested health authorities determine if there had been any medical errors leading to the death of their son.

"Around 20 minutes to three, my wife woke me up with our child limp in her arms and told me to get up because our son was not feeling well," the child's father told MIA.

"First we asked for medical help in Kavadarci, but it seems to me our situation was not taken seriously," he said, adding that their child had died in their arms.

A police report also said the child's 36-year-old mother had told the police her son had been taken to the local hospital around 3 am and then referred to the Skopje Clinical Center, where the child was pronounced dead upon arrival at 8:45 am. mr/
