Ambassador Ludva: EU needs North Macedonia perhaps much more than country needs EU
- The path is difficult, but there is a perspective, now we are talking about conditions, we are talking about many other things, but I can say that we, as an EU member, are waiting for North Macedonia and we need it, perhaps much more than you need the EU, Czech Ambassador Jaroslav Ludva said during a visit to Debar on Thursday.
Debar, 27 February 2025 (MIA) - The path is difficult, but there is a perspective, now we are talking about conditions, we are talking about many other things, but I can say that we, as an EU member, are waiting for North Macedonia and we need it, perhaps much more than you need the EU, Czech Ambassador Jaroslav Ludva said during a visit to Debar on Thursday.
In response to a reporter's question whether the issue that is a condition for North Macedonia's EU membership can be overcome soon, Czech Ambassador Ludva, who spoke in Albanian which he has learned while he was a diplomat in Tirana, said that it was a very difficult issue.
"I can't give an answer, but I can say that I've been here, in the country, for three years. Now we're upon the point of opening negotiations, which is not very easy, and we all know the reason, but I can say that North Macedonia always has the Czech Republic's support, to join the EU," said Ludva.
Other diplomats also expressed support for the country's European integration.
"I am very committed to North Macedonia joining the EU as soon as possible, so that it has a much better perspective," said Spanish Ambassador Rafael Soriano Ortiz.
The Czech and the Spanish Ambassadors, alongside the Ambassadors of Hungary and Italy, paid an informal visit to Debar on Thursday, at the initiative of Albanian Ambassador Denion Meidani.
