Reykjavik, 4 May 2020 (dpa/MIA) – Icelandic strongman and actor Hafthor Bjornsson has broken the world deadlift record.
The 31-year-old hoisted 501 kilograms – 1 kilo more than the previous record-holder Eddie Hall lifted in 2016, US sports broadcaster ESPN reported on Saturday.
“I have no words. What an amazing day, one I will remember for the rest of my life,” Bjornsson wrote on his Instagram page after setting the new record.
He is known internationally for playing Gregor Clegane – known as The Mountain – on the fantasy series “Game of Thrones”.
Bjornsson was crowned World’s Strongest Man in 2018 and has won the Arnold Strongman Classic competition twice, according to his website.
