Skopje, 17 September 2019 (MIA) – The American people have shown us true friendship in action, as well as commitment to our prosperity, said Finance Minister Nina Angelovska at her first official meeting with US Ambassador Kate Marie Byrnes.
“Through USAID, the US has invested 640 million dollars into programs that have created new jobs, supported free and fair elections, improved ethnic relations and promoted the inclusion of marginalized and vulnerable groups,” Minister Angelovska said.
North Macedonia, according to the Ministry of Finance, has recently received the second tranche (11 million dollars) of a 25,5 million development grant from the US.
Financed projects include support to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and ensuring greater energy security.
Part of the funding is to strengthen executive government capacities, the Ministry’s release reads, and to promote the inclusion of marginalized groups in society.
In a nod to her business background, Angelovska said she sees this support as key in helping companies become more competitive.
Ambassador Byrnes praised Minister Angelovska’s positive and energetic outlook and said that such an approach could initiate true transformation within the country’s institutions and general business culture. mr/
