Washington/Tehran, 17 July 2026 (dpa/MIA) - Iranian media reported attacks on bridges and an airport in the country's south on Thursday after the US military launched another wave of strikes against targets in Iran.

The Fars news agency, which is close to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said the Kahurestan and Gariveh bridges in Hormozgan province had been hit, citing the provincial administration.

At least seven people were killed in US attacks on roads and bridges around the Gulf port city of Bandar Khamir, state broadcaster Press TV reported. At least nine others were injured in the attacks in the southern province of Hormozgan.

The strikes on the bridges were intended to disrupt supply routes to an Iranian naval base near the Strait of Hormuz, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a US official.

State broadcaster IRIB reported that Iranshahr airport in the south-eastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan had also been hit. 

At least one projectile struck the airport, according to Press TV. Fires caused by the attack had been extinguished, but the airport remained without electricity, an IRIB correspondent said. No deaths were reported.

US military launches sixth night of strikes

The US military had launched attacks on Iran for a sixth consecutive night, its regional command CENTCOM said on X. The wave of attacks lasted almost eight hours, it said in an update.

US forces, including fighter jets, aerial drones, and warships, launched "precision munitions that hit dozens of Iranian military targets" such as coastal surveillance and air defence sites, military logistics infrastructure, and maritime capabilities, CENTCOM said. 

"At the Commander in Chief's direction, CENTCOM is further degrading Iranian military capabilities and holding Iran accountable for recent attacks on commercial shipping," it said.

"More than 50,000 US service members are operating across the Middle East and remain vigilant, lethal, and ready."

US President Donald Trump threatened to destroy all power stations and bridges on Tuesday. He made similar threats in April, when he warned that Iran's bridges and power plants could be destroyed within hours to pressure Tehran into reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil and liquefied natural gas trade.

Meanwhile, Kuwait's air defences again had to repel Iranian missile and drone attacks, the military said on Friday. 

The Kuwaiti armed forces said explosions heard over the country were the result of air defence systems. 

Sirens also wailed in the US-allied Gulf state of Bahrain, the Interior Ministry reported.

According to Press TV, the Iranian military said it had carried out retaliatory strikes in response to the US attacks. A helicopter base and a US military reconnaissance aircraft in Bahrain were reportedly targeted. 

Press TV also reported that US radar installations and missile launch sites in Kuwait were set on fire. US facilities in Jordan were also allegedly targeted again. The broadcaster's claims could not be immediately verified.

Qatar also reported being targeted. A child was injured by falling debris during an air-defence operation, the country's Interior Ministry said.

The Gulf states had already come under fire from Iran on previous nights after renewed US attacks on Iran.
