Skopje, 20 July 2026 (MIA) – Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi held a meeting Monday with Ukrainian Ambassador Larysa Dir to reaffirm the friendly cooperation between the two countries and the commitment to further expanding it. Talks also focused on the situation in Ukraine, parliamentary cooperation and ways to further strengthen bilateral relations, Parliament’s press office said.

Gashi reaffirmed the strong and principled support of his country for Ukraine, its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity saying the country will resume providing political, humanitarian, military and technical assistance to Ukraine in coordination with the European Union and the Euro-Atlantic partners.

He praised the fruitful cooperation between the Parliament and the Verkhovna Rada saying cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral level, including at the highest parliamentary level, has been significantly improved in the past few years.

The active role of Parliament in the parliamentary dimension of the International Crimean Platform was emphasised during the meeting and it was noted that Parliament was the first assembly that had established a parliamentary group for the Crimean Platform, which was also established after the election of the new Parliament.

Ambassador Dir thanked for the continuing support of the Republic of North Macedonia to Ukraine and welcomed the Parliament’s active role in strengthening interparliamentary cooperation and support of the initiatives aimed at establishing peace, security and respect of international law. The two interlocutors expressed hope that the successful cooperation between the two countries will keep on advancing in the period to come, said the press release.
