President Siljanovska Davkova meets Admiral Witkoff, highlight importance of NATO, U.S. partnership

Skopje, 21 May 2026 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova met Thursday with Commander of Joint Force Command (JFC) Naples, Admiral George M. Wikoff, who is paying a first visit to the country after assuming the post.

President Siljanovska Davkova congratulated Admiral Wikoff and stressed the significant role of JFC Naples to Euro-Atlantic security, regional stability and international peace.

Siljanovska Davkova and Wikoff highlighted the significance of the partnership with NATO and the United States, as well as the importance of JFC Naples' cooperation for the security and stability of the Balkans, along with the further development of a modern and interoperable defense system, the President's Office said in a press release.

Interlocutors also discussed the importance of the Balkan region in the context of European security, its infrastructure and logistical connectivity, as well as the civilian-military coordination in advancing allied preparedness and mobility. They also referred to the importance of the Krivolak army field as one of the key facilities for large-scale allied exercises, which further strengthens the Macedonian Army's contribution to NATO.

Admiral Wikoff referred to the contribution and global responsibility that the country has demonstrated through its participation in numerous NATO-led peacekeeping missions, noting that the country's geographic position makes it a key point for the Alliance's eastern flank.

Discussions also tackled current security challenges, impact of the war in Ukraine and the Middle East developments, which puts the need for unity, readiness and stronger cooperation among allies to the forefront.

President Siljanovska Davkova reaffirmed the country's full commitment to the Alliance's common values and goals, as well as its contribution to collective security and NATO stability, reads the press release.
