Bratislava, 2 June 2026 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, who is paying an official visit to the Slovak Republic, laid a wreath Tuesday at the Gate of Freedom Memorial in Devin.

Located at the base of Devín Castle in Bratislava, at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers, the monument commemorates the approximately 400 people who were killed by the communist regime while trying to escape across the Iron Curtain into Austria between 1945 and 1989.

Earlier in the day, President Siljanovska Davkova met with Slovak counterpart Peter Pellegrini, National Council of Slovakia Speaker Richard Raši, and Deputy PM and Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák.

On Wednesday, President Siljanovska-Davkova will visit the group exhibition “From Glagolitic to Light: A Visual Ode to Saints Cyril and Methodius” at the National Centre for Culture and Education in Bratislava, featuring works by Macedonian artists Ana Mitevska, Angel Korunovski, Laze Tripkov, and Aleksandra Kostadinovska. The curator of the exhibition is Kiril Penushliski.
