Skopje, 29 June 2026 (MIA) — Parliament approved Monday a proposal to fast-track the adoption of amendments to the Electoral Code, with 59 MPs voting in favor, three voting against and no abstentions. 

Deputy Parliament Speaker Antonijo Miloshoski said the Committee on Political System and Community Relations and the Legislative Committee would convene to review the draft amendments.

A group of five MPs (Antonijo Miloshoski, Zeqirja Tairi, Daniel Stojchevski, Blerim Bexheti and Ivanka Vasilevska) submitted the proposal. Among other updates to the law, the amendments would allow citizens living abroad to vote electronically and change how the state funds political parties.

Explaining why adopting the law should be fast-tracked, Miloshoski said political parties had already spent four months discussing it at the Ministry of Justice. The only party that did not finish the talks was SDSM, which walked out after initially taking part.

Miloshoski said that during the discussions, everyone had agreed on 28 election recommendations from the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.

He said the workgroup at the Ministry of Justice made all decisions together without forcing any votes. He added that MPs would have more chances to debate the details in upcoming committee and Parliament sessions. mr/
