Sarajevo, 8 June 2026 (MIA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski and Bosnia and Herzegovina Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković reaffirmed Monday the excellent bilateral relations and continued cooperation, and constructive political dialogue on all levels.

"We are maintaining a regular and rich political dialogue on all levels and there are no open bilateral issues. Considering the present geopolitical circumstances, this is a rare and positive example in the region," FM Mucunski told a joint press conference after the meeting held in Sarajevo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said in a press release.

Mucunski and Konaković discussed current political developments in the region, European integration and the EU enlargement policy, noting that enlargement is a strategic interest for countries of the Western Balkans and the European Union, especially amid heightened geopolitical challenges.

"Our countries are tied by common strategic objectives, primarily the region's European prospects, and the joint commitment to peace, stability and security in the Western Balkans and Europe," said Mucunski.

Interlocutors also reaffirmed the readiness for further strengthening of bilateral cooperation, specifically in the economic sector, with a need for more frequent business fora, improvement of transport connectivity and reinstating of the Skopje-Sarajevo direct flight.

"Despite the excellent political relations, there is significant room for improvement of economic ties. In this regard, we are initiating the organization of business fora, overcoming of the operational challenges in transport and improvement of transport connectivity, including through the re-introduction of the Skopje-Sarajevo flight," said Mucunski.

The two FMs also exchanged opinions on the current security challenges in the region, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the stability, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina in accordance with the Dayton Peace Accords.

"We stand firmly behind Bosnia and Herzegovina's sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence. Respecting the national symbols and the country's internationally recognized status continues to be our principled and consistent position," said Mucunski.

On BiH's Euro-Atlantic prospects, Mucunski said that NATO member Macedonia strongly supports the country in its efforts to implement reforms, in cooperation with the Alliance and international partners.

"We believe that the presence of NATO and the European Union, the EUFOR Althea mission and the Office of the High Representative, continue to be of essential importance for the country's stability and security, as well as the full implementation of the Dayton Peace Accords," said Mucunski.

In addition, Mucunski and Konaković agreed on the readiness for further strengthening of political dialogue, economic cooperation and bilateral partnership, reads the press release.
