Skopje, 10 July 2026 (MIA) - Prime Minister and VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said Friday that his party stands by its position on diaspora voting, will accept the opposition's demands concerning the Electoral Code and is now focused on securing a basic agreement with the opposition in Parliament.

"The problem is that we do not have a unified position within the opposition that would allow us to reach even a basic agreement on the Electoral Code, as that document is the foundation for ensuring free and democratic elections, incorporating the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR," Mickoski said.

Mickoski said they had proposed to the opposition in Parliament to draft and agree on a text and submit it to them.

“They said they wanted a single electoral district, and we said we accepted that outright, agree on it and we accept single electoral district. That is the first thing. Second, they said they needed more funds for campaign financing, and we accept that as well, no problem. We will partially give up our share and transfer it to the opposition parties. As for the voting method, whatever they decide, we will accept," he said.

Mickoski said the opposition, especially Levica, was spreading various claims, lies and political constructions in public, adding that they seemed to be trying to justify their participation in negotiations before the small number of voters who had supported them.
