Skopje, 13 August 2026 (MIA) - On the occasion of the 25th anniversary since the signing of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said the agreement is part of the country's recent history and the state's political and institutional reality, adding that today, on the anniversary of its signing, it is important to look at this document with maturity, with respect for the different views that exist in society and, above all, with responsibility towards the future.

The PM said in a Facebook post that "we should not adapt history to fit daily politics, nor should we expect everyone to share the same view of past events,", noting that today we need to unite around issues that affect today's generations. 

"We are aware that the Framework Agreement is seen and interpreted differently among citizens. We should not adapt history to fit daily politics, nor should we expect everyone to share the same view of past events. However, it is our duty to draw lessons from the past and to build a state in which differences will not be a reason for divisions, but a reality that we handle wisely, responsibly and within the framework of institutions. More than two decades later, new challenges lie ahead of us. Today's generations expect functional institutions, equality before the law, quality education, better healthcare, a higher standard of living, economic development and opportunities to build their future at home. These are the issues around which we should unite, regardless of ethnic, religious or political affiliation. It is time for politics to deal less with what divides us, and much more with what we need to build together," said Mickoski.

According to him, the country needs a society in which a person's value will not be measured by their origin, but by their knowledge, effort, honesty and contribution to the community.

"A state in which institutions will serve the citizens and advancement will depend on ability and results. Our responsibility today is to create a stable and secure state in which everyone will feel respected and equal before the law, while building a common sense of belonging and responsibility towards the state. We cannot change the past, but we can decide what future we build. That future must be free from ethnic tensions, political manipulation and division that have been used for years as a substitute for results. Instead, we need work, development, order, mutual respect and strong institutions. It is our duty to hand down a more stable and more thriving Macedonia to future generations. A state in which differences will be respected, but the common future will be stronger than anything that divides us," PM Mickoski said in his Facebook post.
