Skopje, 29 May 2026 (MIA) – We are curious to learn more about the idea behind German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s proposal for gradual integration into the European Union, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Friday.
PM Mickoski confirmed today, in response to a journalist’s question that he will attend the upcoming EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat, where he expects, as he said, to hear more about these concepts and ideas.
“We have been hearing those considerations and ideas for a long time, and I cannot comment on anything until it becomes official. Chancellor Merz announced such a development back at the Berlin Process meeting in London last year, and I commented on it then that new proposals, new opportunities in the region, and so on would emerge. What I can say at this moment is that we are curious to learn more about the idea. I assume that will happen at the summit in Tivat on June 4-5, where I will be present. I look forward to hearing these concepts and ideas. Once we have more concrete details, we will be able to speak publicly,” Mickoski said who attended the opening of the MEGA Shopping Park Gevgelija.
