Kuwait intercepts Iranian drones as sirens sound in Bahrain

Tehran, 20 July 2026 (dpa/MIA) - Kuwait said its air defences intercepted hostile drones launched from Iran, as Tehran continued retaliatory attacks on countries hosting US military bases amid the escalating conflict with Washington.

The Kuwaiti military announced the interception on X early on Monday but gave no further details.

Air raid sirens also sounded again in neighbouring Bahrain, another US ally that hosts US military forces, the country's Interior Ministry said.

The United States has resumed strikes on targets in Iran in recent days, while Tehran has responded with attacks on countries hosting US military bases across the region.

Washington is deploying additional fighter jets and aerial refuelling aircraft to the Middle East in response to the latest escalation, according to US media reports.

The conflict has intensified again since the start of the month, triggered by a dispute over the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for global oil, gas and fertilizer trade.
