Skopje, 22 July 2026 (MIA) - Justice Minister Jeton Shasivari held a meeting Wednesday with the European Union’s Ambassador to the country, Michalis Rokas, discussing ongoing reforms in the judiciary and the country’s progress in the EU accession process.

In a press release, the Justice Ministry said Minister Shasivari highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to implementing reforms in accordance with the recommendations of the European Commission, with a special emphasis on the rule of law and the implementation of obligations from the Reform Agenda and the “Fundamentals” cluster.

“The meeting discussed the implementation of the Judicial Sector Development Strategy 2024-2028, as well as activities being realized with the support of the European Union through IPA projects for the strengthening of the judicial system and its digitization,” the Ministry said. 

The Minister expressed gratitude for the continued support of the European Union in the implementation of the reforms that play a significant role in strengthening the institutions, promoting rule of law, and accelerating the country’s European accession.  

“In that context, the need for expert assistance from the European Union in criminal legislation reforms was highlighted,” the Ministry said.

The meeting also reaffirmed a shared commitment to continue cooperation as partners and intensify reforms in the judiciary with the goal of promoting its functional independence in line with European standards and the country’s reform priorities.
