Skopje, 20 May 2026 (MIA) — Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Gjorche Petrov Municipality Mayor Aleksandar Stojkoski laid the cornerstone Wednesday for a new eight-classroom extension at Volkovo-Orman's Joakim Krchovski Elementary School, a project that will accommodate 200 more students.

The project costs Mden 42 million and is being funded by the government.

The expansion comes as the school celebrates its 80th anniversary, Mayor Stojkoski said.

"This area of the municipality is growing fast and we have more children enrolling every year," he said.

Stojkoski said the new 600-square-meter building should allow the school to switch to a single-shift school day by the 2027-28 school year. 

This is the second school expansion started in the municipality this month, with a third one on the way, he said.

PM Mickoski said he expected the project to be completed successfully, adding that the new infrastructure would give children a better learning environment.

"As a government, we continue to work with dedication," he said. "We are delivering on what we promised." mr/
