Tehran, 18 July 2026 (dpa/MIA) - The drinking water supply for at least 10,000 people on the Iranian coast has been cut off following US attacks in the south of the country, official sources said on Saturday.

The reason was the bombing of a seawater desalination plant in the coastal region of Jask, the government's press service reported, citing the water utility of Hormozgan province. Some 20 villages on the coast are affected, it said.

The US military says it has been attacking targets in southern Iran to weaken Iran's ability to fire on the Strait of Hormuz. 

Residents and Iranian journalists on social media, however, also reported attacks on civilian facilities, including bridges, roads and critical infrastructure. With temperatures well above 40 degrees Celsius, attacks on the water supply are particularly serious for the population.
