Skopje, 21 July 2026 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova will welcome President of India Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday with the highest state and military honors as she begins a two-day official visit to the country.

Following the welcoming ceremony at the President's Office, the two presidents will hold a tête-à-tête meeting, followed by a plenary meeting of the Macedonian and Indian delegations and a joint press conference.

Indian President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Skopje on Monday evening and was welcomed at the Skopje International Airport by Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski.

"Several meetings and activities are scheduled as part of the visit. I expect them to reaffirm the excellent bilateral relations and provide fresh impetus for the further advancement of political and economic cooperation between our two countries," Mucunski wrote on Facebook.

As part of her visit, President Murmu is also scheduled to lay a wreath at the tomb of Goce Delchev at the Church of St. Spas in Skopje.

She is also due to meet with Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi, sign the Book of Impressions and deliver a speech to the Macedonian Parliament.

A Macedonian-Indian business forum will take place Tuesday afternoon, organized by the President’s Office in cooperation with the Directorate of Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. The country’s investment opportunities will be presented at the event, which will be addressed by both President Siljanovska-Davkova and President Murmu.

On Wednesday, day two of the official visit, the presidents will visit the Mother Teresa Memorial House and the Museum of the City of Skopje, where they will address a ceremony during which Mahatma Gandhi’s bust will be unveiled. After the event at the Museum of the City of Skopje, President Siljanovska-Davkova and President Murmu will travel to Ohrid, where they will visit the St. Naum monastery as well as the monasteries and churches in Ohrid.

Starting Monday and until July 23, during President Murmu’s visit, traffic restrictions will be in place in Skopje, most notably in the wider central area of the capital.
