Hoxha - Totschnig: Enhancement of environment cooperation with Austria

Skopje, 22 April 2026 (MIA) - Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Muamet Hoxha met in Vienna on Wednesday with Austria's Federal Minister for Agriculture and Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management, Norbert Totschnig, discussing water management, nature protection and green transition.
Minister Hoxha presented the priority investments in the water sector and the process of setting up a contemporary regional waste management system, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning said in a press release.
Referring to protected areas, Hoxha said Austria has vast experience in the management of national parks that could be valuable for North Macedonia.
Interlocutors highlighted the value of cooperation through the European Union mechanisms and voiced interest in the enhancement of the partnership in the environment sector.
In addition, Minister Hoxha stressed the importance of the Law on Climate Action that is currently in the pipeline and which should set up a comprehensive framework for climate change management, reads the press release.
