Gostivar epidemic continues to stabilize, number of new patients down by 41% 

Skopje, 22 July 2026 (MIA) - The number of newly examined patients presenting with gastroenterocolitis symptoms in Gostivar continued to decline on Tuesday, according to data collected from Gostivar’s public health institutions.

In a press release on Wednesday, the Health Ministry said Gostivar’s General Hospital recorded a total of 108 new examinations – 60 at the infectious diseases department, 37 at the pediatric department, and 11 at the emergency department. Two new patients have been hospitalized in the infectious diseases department.

The Gostivar Health Center registered 87 examinations, as well as 17 ambulance calls.

Skopje’s University Clinic for Infectious Diseases and Febrile Conditions registered 3 new examinations of patients from Gostivar on Tuesday, with one hospitalization.

“The trend toward stabilizing the situation continued on Tuesday. Compared to July 20, 2026, when 183 examinations were recorded at the Gostivar General Hospital, yesterday saw a total of 108 examinations, or a 41 percent decrease. At the same time, the number of examinations at the Health Center dropped from 110 to 87 patients, a decrease of nearly 21 percent, which further confirms that the numbers are heading in a positive direction,” Health Minister Sasho Klekovski said.
