Skopje, 8 May 2026 (MIA) - Defense Minister Vlado Misajlovski met Friday with a delegation from the European External Action Service (EEAS), led by Cosmin Dobran, Director for Peace, Partnerships and Crisis Management within EEAS, reaffirming the mutual commitment for strengthening defense cooperation.

The meeting is part of the Security and Defence Partnership between the European Union and North Macedonia, the Ministry of Defense said in a press release.

"The Macedonian Government has a clear and unequivocal goal - strengthening the bilateral cooperation in the field of defense and security, as well as joint management of contemporary challenges," said Minister Misajlovski.

According to him, the Ministry of Defense remains fully committed to the partnership with the European Union.

"We aim to continue the strengthening of cooperation through new projects and programme. As a NATO member and an EU candidate, it is our ambition to be more actively engaged in the European defense initiatives," said Misajlovski.

The Defense Minister also thanked for the three packages of support through the European Peace Facility and other financial facilities that support the Macedonian Army capacities.

EEAS' Dobran said the EU is ready to strengthen cooperation in the defense sector, noting that military mobility is important for greater efficiency and resilience.

Dobran noted that the EU is also reviewing options for fresh support in the form of Army equipment in the coming period.

To date, the EU has provided several sets of measures in support for the Army worth EUR 40 million, reads the press release.
