Alcazar Energy's wind farm to make Macedonia energy independent, says Mickoski
- Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Wednesday the Alcazar Energy investment into the wind farm in Shtip, Radovish and Karbinci, for which 180 million euros were provided in the first stage, will open hundreds of jobs, provide new road infrastructure and one terawatt hour of electricity from renewable sources.
Skopje, 9 September 2026 (MIA) – Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Wednesday the Alcazar Energy investment into the wind farm in Shtip, Radovish and Karbinci, for which 180 million euros were provided in the first stage, will open hundreds of jobs, provide new road infrastructure and one terawatt hour of electricity from renewable sources.
It is about million megawatt hours, something that has never been recorded in our history, said Mickoski. “It will become net energy independent Macedonia once it becomes reality by the end of the year,” he stressed.
The prime minister said that when the whole idea was only on paper a few had believed in it. While today, Mickoski said, construction works are under way in Shtip, Radovish and Karbinci.
“Today, we’re seeing hundreds of construction machines and the start of the installation of wind farm capacities. We’re launching an investment of half a billion dollars, but I’m encouraged by the fact that they have more plans in Macedonia, which the government is going to support," he added.
Stressing that the country has future potentials for energy investments, Mickoski referred to the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s remarks at the 2025 business forum that the Balkans could turn into a hub through which Europe will be provided with renewable energy.
“Considering the development of artificial energy, which is an irreversible process, in the next 14-15 years Europe will need an additional 1000-terawatt hours of electricity. Therefore, the potential that we as a country can invest in production capacities and then produce is equal to 24 terawatt hours. When this is multiplied by the price of electricity, we are talking about a two-billion-euro annual business that should increase the Macedonian GDP and contribute positively to the Macedonian economy. Given the goal of being a crossroads of this part of the region and for energy infrastructure, we put the support of this type of greenfield investments at the top of the priorities,” stated PM Mickoski.

According to Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski, the combination of sustainable transport and green transition makes Macedonia a leader in the region.
“We will continue to support the project. We have invested a lot recently under the leadership of Prime Minister Mickoski, Minister of Energy Sanja Bozhinovska, the mayors of Shtip, Karbinci, Radovis, the teams of the Ministry of Transport, the Cadastre, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment… The fact that we are here today, and in three years we will launch this wind farm, is the best proof of your work,” he said.
180 million euros have been provided for the first stage out of three for the project designed to provide 396 megawatts of electricity in the wind farm, which will contain a total of 54 windmills and will be the largest in the region.
“Today we’re completing a financial closure for 132 megawatts and 21 turbines with 180 million euros, provided by EBRD, IFC, Erste Bank together with Sparkasse Bank. I cannot reveal the name of the constructor, but what I can say is that such a company has shown trust in a country like Macedonia,” said Daniel Calderon, co-founder and managing partner at Alcazar Energy.
Once the wind park is completed, he said, it will provide energy for 148,000 households, save 570,000 tons of CO2, and create around 300 jobs.
