Skopje, 7 December 2017 (MIA) - Single mothers have difficulties in finding a job. It is estimated that about 30 percent of them are unemployed and should receive support for easier access to the labor market and through employment measures, heard the final conference of EU-funded project "Programme for (Self) Employment of Single Mothers".
The project was implemented by the Business Confederation of Macedonia, Macedonian Association of Business Women, and Institute for Management Support.
"In general, finding a job in the country is a challenge. Single mothers are a special group, because it is not only the job issue, but also the stigma accompanying them. However, these programmes are a positive example, which can help them and their children", said Valentina Disovska, president of the Macedonian Association of Business Women.
According to her, employers should know that single mothers need a job but also be aware of the problems they face.
"They need to have flexible working hours in order to take care of the family", added Disovska.
Mile Boskov of the Business Confederation of Macedonia said everyone should be equally treated when hiring staff and employers should not release discriminatory ads.
"Awareness is increasing and it is important to treat people the same, regardless of the category. It is important to provide equal opportunities for all", said Boskov.
He told policy makers to create measures for the employment of this category in the Operational Employment Plan.
Single mothers from Skopje, Stip and Bitola took part in the project, which included training on development of business skills and vocational training. ik/14:23
