EC does not confirm Várhelyi-Western Balkans meeting on April 30

The European Commission (EC) spokesperson Ana Pisonero told MIA that there is no information related to a meeting between European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi and foreign ministers of the Western Balkans, MIA’s Brussels correspondent reports Tuesday.

Brussels, 28 April 2020 (MIA) – The European Commission (EC) spokesperson Ana Pisonero told MIA that there is no information related to a meeting between European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi and foreign ministers of the Western Balkans, MIA’s Brussels correspondent reports Tuesday.

The news was reported by Al Jazeera Balkans citing diplomatic sources, however European Commissioner’s office was not acquainted of such a video conference, which Al Jazeera Balkans said was aimed at preparing an upcoming video summit of the EU and Western Balkan leaders.

“We do not have confirmation, but certainly there will be plenty of contacts to prepare for the summit on May 6, but there is no confirmation of such a specific video conference,” Pisonero said.

European Commission’s chief spokesperson Eric Mamer said that the EU commissioners at the regular meeting on Wednesday will debate about EU-Western Balkans Summit and the way in which the EU contributes to the region.
