DUI sets prevention of people’s health and OSCE/ODIHR monitoring as criteria for elections

The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) believes two criteria must be fulfilled in order to have elections - confirmation from the Commission for Infectious Diseases that the process would not endanger the people's health and confirmation from OSCE/ODIHR on the monitoring of the polls.

Skopje, 6 May 2020 (MIA) – The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) believes two criteria must be fulfilled in order to have elections – confirmation from the Commission for Infectious Diseases that the process would not endanger the people’s health and confirmation from OSCE/ODIHR on the monitoring of the polls.

Deputy PM for European Affairs Bujar Osmani told Wednesday’s press conference said the second condition was mentioned at yesterday’s communication with EU institutions, which consider that the decision on the elections lies solely with North Macedonia, but the OSCE/ODIHR monitoring is very important for the election process.

“DUI believes that the elections can take place at any time if the Commission says the vote does not pose a risk to the people’s health and observers decide they can come and monitor the elections,” said Osmani.

According to him, an analysis needs to be carried out on the basis of the existing parameters and trends.

“The Commission will have to see the trend when the decision on the elections will have to be taken, because the trend shows the projection for the period to follow, i.e. the coming 10 or 20 days,” noted Osmani.
