Skopje, 13 August 2020 (MIA) – DUI leader Ali Ahemti confirmed Thursday that talks for the formation of government are under way, saying he’ll meet SDSM leader Zoran Zaev, but fell short of saying whether his party might drop some of its demands in the negotiations.
DUI, he noted, is a factor of stability for the country.
“While being aware of our mission, DUI will never act with euphoria or with pressure. We will find the right way to serve the country, to serve stability and to overcome the difficulties we are facing as easily as possible,” Ahmeti said, noting that public health amid the COVID-19 pandemic was one of them.
He refrained from assessing the outcome of the negotiations prematurely.
“DUI keeps a cool head and works with an open heart. I guarantee you, all our decisions will be in the interest of the state, the country and the future of the country,” said Ahmeti.
The DUI leader confirmed that Zaev had already met with the Alliance for Albanians/Alternativa coalition. “Such meetings, public or behind closed doors, weaken DUI’s position in the negotiations, which is evident,” he told reporters.
At the moment, Ahmeti noted, two political parries are facing off with great political and negotiating experience and things are looking quite good. “I wish reason prevailed in the talks and the interest of the state should be put above everything else.”
Asked about the Ohrid Framework Agreement, he said its implementation was ‘evident’.
