Derkovski: Election Day peaceful, minor incidents not disrupting electoral process

Turnout is satisfactory, considering the COVID-19 situation, said State Election Commission (SEC) president Oliver Derkovski on Wednesday afternoon.

Skopje, 15 July 2020 (MIA) – Turnout is satisfactory, considering the COVID-19 situation, said State Election Commission (SEC) president Oliver Derkovski on Wednesday afternoon.

SEC data show that 703,597 citizens voted up to 5 pm, i.e. turnout stands at 38.78 percent.

“I expect citizens to exercise their voting right until the end of the day and give legitimacy to the next authorities and the entire electoral process,” Derkovski told a press conference.

According to him, Election Day is peaceful with minor, sporadic incidents.

“These issues are being addressed during the day and we can be generally satisfied from developments,” added Derkovski.

SEC has received several complaints over alleged violations of the electoral process and violations of the voting right and the election silence, but they cannot disrupt the entire electoral process.

Compared to the 2016 parliamentary elections, turnout is lower by 21.63 percent, whereas regarding last year’s presidential elections, it is higher by 0.59 percent.

Turnout by election districts is the following: 41.07 percent in ED1, 36.98 percent in ED2, 43.87 percent in ED3, 43.99 percent in ED4, 38.33 percent in ED5, and 29.6 percent in ED6.
