Claims over price hikes as a result of electricity increase untrue: commission

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) said Wednesday the claims that the increased price of electricity will result in a hike of prices of other products are untrue, unfounded and unprofessional.

Skopje, 5 August 2020 (MIA) – The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) said Wednesday the claims that the increased price of electricity will result in a hike of prices of other products are untrue, unfounded and unprofessional.

ERC has confirmed the July 31 decision that the electricity price will go up by 7.4 percent, relating only to the regulated electricity market.

“Majority of the industrial and commercial consumers are purchasing electricity by themselves on the free market, and these prices are not determined by the Commission. Electricity price on the free market in North Macedonia in 2020 is lower by approximately nine percent compared to 2019, which means that the electricity costs for industrial and commercial consumers in 2020 will be lower compared to last year, resulting in a positive effect on operations amid the crisis,” ERC president Marko Bislimovski said in a statement.
