Choice on July 15 is simple, says SDSM’s Zaev

The choice on July 15 is simple: higher salaries for all or putting money in the pockets of Gruevski's friends. On July 15, citizens will decide to vote for economic development and better lives for all, SDSM leader and MP candidate Zoran Zaev told a press conference in Strumica on Sunday.

Strumica, 5 July 2020 (MIA) – The choice on July 15 is simple: higher salaries for all or putting money in the pockets of Gruevski’s friends. On July 15, citizens will decide to vote for economic development and better lives for all, SDSM leader and MP candidate Zoran Zaev told a press conference in Strumica on Sunday.

He stressed that when SDSM came into power three years ago, it faced serious economic challenges which required efficiency, bravery and determination.

“The economy was on its knees and salaries were stagnant. When we took over, the unemployment rate exceeded 22%. But we never wavered before the challenge and took firm measures to improve the economy. We increased the minimum wage first to Mden 12,000 and than to Mden 14,500 and achieved stable economic growth of 3.6%,” Zaev said.

He added that North Macedonia under SDSM leadership attracted foreign investments of over EUR 950 million in 2018 and 2019.

“Thus the unemployment rate dropped and 64,000 new jobs opened in the private sector. The unemployment rate in Q1 of 2020 went down to a record 16.2%. We showed that we can build a strong economy, with stable growth rate, where salaries and pensions are constantly on the rise and unemployment is declining,” Zaev said.

According to the SDSM leader, now is the time for economic development based on new technologies, sustainability and human capital, through economic patriotism.

“Increasing the minimum wage to Mden 20,000 and the average salary to Mden 34,000 by the end of our next term is economic patriotism. Raising salaries of health workers by 40% by 20204 is economic patriotism. Upping pensions by 21% is economic patriotism. Allocating EUR 28 million in support of domestic economy is economic patriotism,” Zaev stressed.

He presented in Strumica the rest of the election campaign of the “We Can” coalition, which includes stronger support for farmers, construction of road infrastructure, as well as  promotion of the welfare system and female-owned businesses, etc.

The SDSM leader also expressed assurance that the “We Can” coalition will win the July 15 election, as opposing VMRO-DPMNE has nothing to offer citizens except renewal of the regime that robbed them.
